Success at ZukunftErfindenNRW

01/05/2014

Scientists Dipl.-Ing. Sebastian Strache, Leo Rolff, B.Sc., Dr.Ralf Wunderlich and ProfessorStefan Heinen from the Chair of Integrated Analog Circuits (IAS) have been awarded for a new developed driving circuit for electronic switches.

ZukunftErfinden 2014 RWTH IAS ZukunftErfinden 2014

For their discovery, they have been nominated for the price of university competition ZukunftErfindenNRW in the category Engineering and Applied Sciences together with two other nominees. With this, they are among the best three inventions in this field, which were selected out of 155 participating teams of the three areas by an independent jury.

On 22/05/2014 they received their award for this performance from NRW Science Minister Svenja Schulze at the award ceremony in the Dortmunder U. Using this novel control circuit for transistors and the fully monolithically integrated solution, the reliability can be increased and the volume of the assembly and the cost can be drastically reduced. Furthermore, improved control strategies can be implemented to increase the overall efficiency of the application. The invention can be applied among others in LED drivers, electronics for photovoltaic modules and in many other electronic devices. Thus, cost savings as well as efficiency gains can be achieved.
